The Travel and Tourism industry is one of the biggest and fastest growing industries in the UK.
Advanced Subsidiary/Advanced Level
This up to date applied course is exciting and innovative. It is a full AS/A2 course and carries the same university points as any A level. It is 66% coursework with just 2 exam papers for the other 33%.
You will cover the following units during the 2 years:
- The Travel and Tourism Industry,
- Responsible Tourism,
- The Travel and Tourism Customer,
- Current Issues in Travel and Tourism,
- Destination Britain,
- Special Interest Holidays.
Much of the course is based around interesting issues such as:
“As aircraft cause much CO2 emission should you fly at all?”
“Should any more new tourist resorts be built?”
“Should Heathrow airport be extended?”

The courses offered include: BA/BSc (Hons) Tourism Management, BA/BSc (Hons) Tourism Development, BA/BSc (Hons) InternationalTourism Development, BA/BSc (Hons) Tourism Marketing, BA/BSc (Hons) Business Admin. (Tourism), BA/BSc (Hons) Airport planning and management.
Studying tourism can also be combined with other subjects such as Geography, Business, Media, Marketing, International Studies, Languages, Law, Accounting, Event Management, Environmental Studies and so on. Many courses can include one year professional placements where you get paid. The average pay is at least £14,000 for that 1 year placement. Tourism graduates who have completed a one year placement have higher marks than average and much better employment prospects.
