Spanish Exchange Visit

Our Visit to Spain

Wednesday 7th November, 20 year 10 pupils together with Mrs Salmons and Miss Andres all set off for Spain for the first leg of the Spanish Exchange. Everything was going well until we got on the plane at Gatwick only to be confronted by 20-30 Glaswegian Rangers fans going to watch Rangers vs Barcelona that night! Well as you can imagine they had already had one or two beers and their language was pretty atrocious! Our pupils were angels in comparison! At least for those of us who don’t particularly enjoy flying, it took our minds off it.

We were greeted by fantastic weather in Barcelona, in direct contrast to the dark skies back in Blighty! The next day was hectic with a visit to the local port of Villanova, learning about fish auctions and about the different fishing methods and, of course, sampling some local fish.

Our host school allowed us to spend a day with them, which was interesting but not as much fun as being outdoors on the beach! After a weekend of activities with host families, we all met up again on Monday for our day out in Barcelona. Gaudi architecture, such as the famous Gaudi house “la casa Batillo”, was not as popular as the Barcelona shops! The Roman ruins at Tarragona gave us a sense of history and a cultural flavour was supplied by a Flamenco dance class, which was enjoyed by all.

At the end of a busy week, we spent our most enjoyable day at Sitges, a nearby town with a glorious beach. We took sports equipment and us girls enjoyed the nice weather and relaxed atmosphere on the beach whilst the boys frantically played rugby or American football or whatever!! Our return trip went smoothly and we arrived back to school on time only to find that Ofsted were arriving in 3 days time!

Below are some pictures which help to remind us what a fantastic time we all had. If you want to halt the slide show on a particular picture, hover your mouse over it until you wish to continue.
