Christmas at the Downs School
Christmas around the world!

There was an early start to Christmas at The Downs School on Tuesday! Members of the school and local community gathered to celebrate with song and readings. Over 50 students performed in an orchestra, chamber choir, ensembles and as individuals to tell the story of Christmas and to showcase their musical talents with Christmas songs.

Not to be outdone, the staff choir gave a stirring rendition of “Australian Jingle Bells”. The jazz band comprising 2 talented students, 3 teachers and one of the site managers on the double bass were very well received. Mrs Val Houldey, Headteacher read the closing reading The Mystery of the Incarnation, John 1; 1-14.

As a language college the school tries to give an international flavour to many of its activities and the carol concert was no exception. All three language assistants from German, France and Columbia spoke about Christmas in their countries accompanied by carols in the three languages including audience participation in the well known German carol “Stille Nacht”.
