Retirement after 40 years at The Downs School
A Fond Farewell to Bill

The 30th September saw many friends and colleagues gather in the Staff Room of The Downs School to mark the retirement of Bill Evans who has worked in the schools of West Berkshire since 1948, a staggering 60 years!
Bill was appointed in 1960 as the Head of Technical Studies at the newly opened Downs School. In 1988 he retired from full-time employment but returned as a supply teacher, then as a workshop technician in the Design and Technology Department. He has been a valued member of the team ever since.
The current Head of the Design and Technology Department, Mike Doran said Bill would be missed by all, but especially by the students as he was always there to help with problems big or small. His skills and knowledge are irreplaceable.
In thanking his friends and colleagues for his gifts and good wishes, Bill said that his long association with the school was because it was a good school and he had never been tempted to leave. The school has grown in size but remains one of the best and everyone associated with it should be very proud.
