77 students sat A2 examinations at The Downs School this year. 99.6% of entries gained a pass and over 63% of entries achieved A and B grades continuing the trend of students’ consistent excellent performance at A level.
Headteacher Val Houldey said,
What is particularly pleasing is to see such success at all levels, with a pass rate of 99.6% - and this is with a broader range of ability from what we have had in the past.![]()
Head of Sixth Form, Andy Hartley said,
I’m delighted with the new A* grade – over 12% of the examinations at A2 achieved this level. Also, all of the students who had offers for Cambridge Univeristy have been successful including Amy who achieved 4 A*s. Furthermore, out students with places at Medical and Veterinary School have all managed to secure places at university in this very competitive year.![]()

Outstanding results were gained in the following subjects where the percentage of students gaining grades A and B were above 70%: biology, French, Geography, German, History (90%), Law (86%), Further Mathematics (100%), Mathematics, Music, Politics, Spanish.
77 students sat A levels this year. 99.6% of entries passed; 87% gained grades at C and above, and over 63% of entries achieved A levels at grade A and B. Over 35% of grades were at A.
There were also some stunning performances at AS, with the following students gaining 5 A grades: Tom W, Oliver R and these students gaining 4 A grades: Katie B, Ellie B, Joni R, Daisy M and Lucy G.
