Year 8 Puzzle Day
It was lots of fun!
On the 27th January the maths department organised a Puzzle Day for Year 8 students. The day was a great success and was enjoyed by students, their maths teachers and some parents who had come along to see the fun.

Students worked in group of about six, often with people they had never worked with before, to solve a variety of puzzles. They learned a lot about working as part of a team:-
- It is ok to fail - even lots of times
- Keep trying and don't give up
- Break things down into smaller more manageable parts, instead of trying to solve everything in one go
- Listen to each other and try out everyone's ideas
- It's fun!!
Working as a team is an essential Personal, Learning and Thinking Skill (PLTS) and can be applied in all subject areas.

Puzzle man 'Sunil' was a great presenter and made the sessions fun and exciting for all involved. Sunil also really enjoyed his day at The Downs School and commented on how well behaved our students were and how impressed he was with their problem solving skills.
