The Downs School Support Breast Cancer Research
Students Excel in Pink!

The Downs School Sixth Form recently showed their support for the charity Breast Cancer Research by dressing in pink for the day on Monday 18th October. This was a triumphant year because they surpassed previous efforts by raising a record amount for the charity.
Both Year 12 and Year 13 students enthusiastically came to school wearing an array of pink clothing, with several people opting for pink tights, face paint, tutus or even pyjamas. Students organised a ‘bachelor auction’ in which some of the best-dressed boys performed a catwalk in front of the rest of the students, with several raising more than £20 each! There was a general knowledge quiz and many other activities involving students and staff. Although each year the sixth form are the key to this event, their colourful appearance and enthusiasm raise awareness throughout the school.
Mr Hartley, Head of Sixth Form, was extremely impressed with the student response to Pink Day, saying,

There was a fantastic atmosphere in the Sixth Form. This year more money than ever before was raised, at over £400, and it was great to see students participating with a sense of fun and community, whilst never losing sight of the more serious meaning behind the day. Memories of the bachelor auction will remain with me for a long time!![]()
All proceeds from the day went towards cancer research, and the Sixth Form really enjoyed supporting such a worthwhile cause.
