Cross Curricular Trip
Year 7 Visit Kew gardens

On 3rd May 2011, the X half of Year 7 visited Kew Gardens. This cross curricular trip helped to introduce topics which we will study in Art, Geography, Science and Technology. We were able to explore many of the different glasshouses and viewed many types of plants from flowers to cacti. We also had the opportunity to observe turtles, rays and many types of fish including piranhas. The weather was kind and allowed us to enjoy the treetop walk and the extensive view with the London Eye visible in the distance. The visit to Kew Gardens was an enjoyable trip for everyone.![]()

As part of the Key Stage 3 curriculum, students need to gather research to support classroom project work. We like to give them the opportunity to experience this outside the school environment. Kew Gardens is a rich environment that allows student a wide base for their research. The trip was arranged as whole year visit but each half the year group went on consecutive days.
Students were split in groups and worked together gathering research to support classroom project work through sketching, photography and written notes. They experienced different environments visiting The Shirley Sherwood Art gallery, Temperate House, Tree top Walkway, Palmer House, Waterlily House and the Princess of Wales conservatory.
Without doubt the students throuroughly enjoyed their surroundings and enjoyed the opportunity to study outside the classroom.
