Cross Curricular Trip

Year 7 Visit to Kew Gardens

student group in Palm House

inside a Palm HouseAs part of the Key Stage 3 Art & Geography curriculum, students are expected to gather research to support classroom project work. We like to give them the opportunity to experience this outside the school environment. This year a trip was arranged to visit Kew Gardens. It was a whole school visit but half the year group went on Tuesday 20th April and the other half on Thursday 22nd April 2010.

The weather was set fair and all student were exemplary with members of the public approaching staff with outstanding feedback on behaviour.

Students were split in groups and worked together gathering research to support classroom project work through sketching, photography and written notes. They experienced different environments visiting The Shirley Sherwood Art gallery, Temperate House, Tree top Walkway, Palmer House, Water lily House and the Princess of Wales conservatory.

Without doubt the students throuroughly enjoyed their surroundings and enjoyed the opportunity to study outside the classroom.

Some wonderfully inspiring photograhs were taken, a small selection of which are in a slide show below. We are looking forward to the students' project work based on this trip as it promises to be of a very high standard.
