Christmas at Basildon Park

Downs School Choir Performance

If the School Carol Concert on Tuesday 13th December wasn’t enough to fill the School Choir with Christmas spirit, their visit to Basildon Park on Friday 16th December left them in no doubt that Christmas had definitely arrived.

The lovely old stately home was beautifully decorated throughout with seven stunning Christmas trees around the main house, all resplendent in baubles and bows, and each topped off with a sparkling gold star.

The choir was given pride of place next to an enormous Christmas tree, beside the grand piano in the sweep of the staircase, which was also decorated with red ribbons and swags of greenery.

Two forty-five minute performances were given to the many visitors to the house, several of whom took a seat on the stairs or on the balcony above to listen to the carols and Christmas songs.  And many took the trouble to thank the choir and to congratulate them on their beautiful singing.  Not only did the choir sing well in harmony, but the solo singing of Jess, Laura, Lucy, Natalie and Pip also charmed the audience. It was a magical experience for students and visitors alike.
