THE DOWNS SCHOOL
Apprenticeship Events, May 2017

In order to raise awareness of all opportunities available to students after leaving school, the school runs in a number of activities to help increase the profile of Apprenticeships.

This year, students have attended talks delivered to the school by training providers, including: West Berkshire Training Consortium and local employers such as AWE, Microsoft and PwC.

Students have also attended Careers Fairs aimed at Apprenticeship programmes, for example:

Students in Year 10 and 12 visited Vodafone HQ in Newbury for an “Apprenticeship Festival of Technology”. This was an opportunity for students to find out about a variety of technical apprenticeships available locally at companies such as Vodafone, Thames Water and Fujitsu. There was also an opportunity for them to tour the Vodafone site.

During National Apprenticeship week, Year 13 students who were interested in finding an apprenticeship after leaving school visited the National Apprenticeship Show at Sandown Park. Companies from a diverse range of industry sectors were able to offer advice on the schemes for which they are currently recruiting.
