Year 8 Language Trip

Day Trip to Boulogne

Boulogne

On Saturday 24th September, at 4:30 am, the school gates saw the arrival of 43 bleary eyed students and 8 coffee deprived staff, all set for their day trip to Boulogne, on the North Coast of France. Getting up so early was probably the most challenging part of the entire day!

We hopped aboard the coach and headed off to Folkestone and the Eurotunnel.

the old town

Once arrived in Boulogne, the students went out to explore the market and test their French skills by buying themselves breakfast/lunch. We then trooped up to the old part of the town, taking advantage of the great view from the top of the Ramparts. A leisurely walk allowed us to admire the views and then Miss Staniforth set up a few sporty games to run off some energy.

The students were given a chance to explore the town and do some shopping before we regrouped and headed to the city cathedral with its awe-inspiring 100 metres high dome, the second biggest in Europe!.A bonus was that we got to witness parts of a French wedding but unfortunately as it was taking place we were unable to look inside the cathedral.

The end of the day saw us carrying out some supermarket research and stocking up on French goodies.

We arrived back at school, exhausted, but pleased with our day. The students all had an excellent time, behaved well and showed their appreciation by thanking the staff for taking them.
