Year 7 Adventure Quest 2008

Our School Trip – Year 7 Adventure Quest 3rd October 2008 by Hannah 7HO

I burst straight out of Ellie’s dad’s car, making noises as if I was gagged. Running with Ellie to the coach where the rest of the Y Band was waiting to get onto the coach. In a tousled scramble, I made my way over to Mrs Hodgson who was standing with the rest of 7HO.

I stood fast, peering at the crowds of children on my tiptoes, looking for my best friend Eleanor. I stayed there for about 30 seconds and then I gave up. Isn’t she coming? I thought for a minute. I shoved my bag of supplies under the coach and sighed.

Suddenly, a small blonde shape came desperately running. It was Eleanor! Not soon after we had started talking, it was time to get on the coach. We got on the coach and sat next to each other, for 20 whole minutes! Eventually, the coach lurched forwards and we were off to Watford for our Adventure Day!

The journey lasted about 2 hours. Mrs Young made up a game for us all to play – basically we had to count as many of one type of car as possible. I counted 163 Volkswagen Golfs!

FINALLY we were in the woods in Watford. It was about time! Eleanor and I got off the coach feeling rather proud, as we were both in group 8. But suddenly, they decided to split up group 8. I went into group3, and Eleanor was given to group 5. Great one!

Island Hopping

Well, at least the first challenge was ok. This one really was all about teamwork – it was called Island Hopping, and basically, we had to get all the team from one base to another on tyres. Sounds easy? It’s not! There were about 6 tyres and about 12 of us – and only 4 people were allowed on one tyre at once! Plus, we only had 2 logs to transport us across as no-one was allowed to touch the floor. We did complete that challenge, and afterwards tucked into lunch. I had a slice of pizza –yum!

Students hatching their strategy

I can’t really remember the order we did the challenges in, only that I enjoyed them all – all but one that is. We had to get ourselves into name order, alphabetically, on these 2 ropes – not getting off of them. It was really difficult!

My favourite ones were the Spider’s web and the Jacob’s ladder.

Jacob's Ladder

In Jacob’s ladder, we had to wear harnesses and helmets, as there was this HUGE ladder which we all had to climb in pairs. Each one spaced out a bit every time. I got to the 3rd ladder step with my partner Alexandra.

Cat's Cradle

The Spider’s web was basically these ropes attached to trees in this random way. There were spaces in between them and we had to ‘escape’ from the Spider’s Web touching as little rope as we could. The first challenge on the Web was to get through blindfolded, with someone guiding you. Secondly, we had to get through holding hands in pairs. It was so much fun!
