The annual Downs School Christmas Concert took place on Thursday 8th December. It was a fantastic success and showed the high levels of talent and enthusiasm for music that we have at The Downs School. The music department is ever growing and evolving and this year we had our Orchestra, Brass Group, Junior Choir, Senior Choir, Big Band and two new additions to our clubs, Ukulele group and Chamber group who have had their first performances at this concert.
The concert opened with Josh Fielding reading the classic ‘Twas the night before Christmas’ by Clement Clarke Moore, with a select group of musicians playing the music to accompany the scenes.
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
We then heard a whole range of music (some of which was Christmas themed!) from each of our music clubs, as well as solos from many of our students as well who showed their confidence in performing on their own.
All money raised from this concert is going towards new instruments for the music department so that concerts like this one can continue to run.
