Downs School Teacher Wins for her Form
Form 11BL attend Radio 1 Teen Awards

“Massive Chris Moyles fan” Miss Blakeman won tickets for her class to the Radio One Teen Awards on the 9th October in a competition live on Radio One. They were one of five classes in the country to win tickets to the awards.
The Teen Awards is an annual free concert hosted by Radio One in Wembley Stadium. This year’s popular talent included Ed Sheeran, Pixie Lott and X Factor’s Cher Lloyd, who performed to an audience of fourteen to seventeen year olds, including the Downs School Form 11BL. Also awards were given out, including Best Television Show (which Channel 4’s ‘The Inbetweeners’ won for the second year running) and the ‘Teen Hero’ award, for three especially deserving teenagers.
Miss Blakeman applied on behalf of her form group for the competition which took place before the Teen Awards. To win, she answered as many questions as she could on the musical group JLS in sixty seconds live on the Chris Moyles Show. She went head to head with another teacher who was answering questions about Take That.
The questions were bizarre, including one which asked Miss Blakeman to spell Merrygold (the band member Aston’s surname) backwards. Miss Blakeman put all of her knowledge of JLS down to a quick forty-five minute revision session before going on air.

Miss Blakeman described the opportunity as “exciting” and said that her form definitely “deserve a treat” as they are working hard for GCSE exams and for some it’s their last year in the school. Member of the form Katie described the situation as surreal but exciting, especially seeing Ed Sheeran live. She said that going with her whole form group was great because it was be like one big “family outing”.
