A True Downs School Community Event

Whole School Sponsored Walk 2011

Sponsored Walk

The Downs School community turned out in force for its third annual sponsored walk. Over 1000 students took to the Ridgeway to complete a 6 mile walk to raise funds for pupil reward projects.

Sponsored Walk

The walkers and runners were accompanied by staff, parents and sixth form marshals as they completed the undulating rural course. Heavy rain on the Monday had left a few muddy patches but the warm weather soon brought a smile to everyone’s faces. It is hoped that the event can raise in the region of £10,000.

A number of staff and students dressed carefully for the occassion; there were cowboys and indians and a varied selection of comic book characters to name a few!

open quoteThis is a true community event. There was a great atmosphere as the students finished with friends cheering their friends on.  The students behaved fantastically and many of the marshals and teachers wore fancy dress. I’d also like to thank the large number of parents who helped us.close quote

Librarians Rule!

open quoteWe had fun challenging the stereotype of librarians - not a pleated skirt in sight!  As 'Cowboy Builders' our tattooes read "Read or Die", "Born to Read", "Librarians Rule", "Book Lust" and "Dewey Decimal System". Our hard hats said "Read It".close quote
