Prize Giving and Certificate Presentation Evening

Amazing Achievements in 2010-11

On Monday 19th December The Downs School held its annual Presentation Evening. The event recognised the achievements of the student body in 2010-11and was very well attended with over 300 people packed into the school hall. There was a chance before the formal event for refreshments and last year’s leavers to catch up with each other and their former teachers which was a very enjoyable start to the evening.

Certificate Presentation

Speaker, Alice Freeman

The guest speaker was Olympic rower Alice Freeman who shared images of her trip to Beijing and video footage of her Olympic participation. Alice was part of the GB Women’s Eight that achieved a fifth place at Beijing. Alice spoke of the need to always give your all and to not be afraid of failure. Her own story of resilience and achievement was inspirational and one that all members of the audience could take something from.

A review of the school year included a video of all the highlights, trips and trophies from the academic year 2010-2011. Award winners came from all year groups with some Year 11 and Year 13 students receiving several prizes. Prizes were awarded not only for academic achievement but for citizenship, contributions to their House, effort and attendance.

The event was a true celebration and a fitting way to end the Autumn term.
