6th Form Fundraising for Breast Cancer Research
Pretty in Pink?

Recently, the Downs School Sixth Form took part in the annual fundraising activity of Pink Day, raising money for Breast Cancer Research UK.

Students were allowed to break the smart dress code provided they dressed in pink and made a donation towards fundraising. It was a great day of ridiculous outfits finishing with a quiz organised by the sixth form charity leaders. There were around 20 teams all pitting their wits against each other with tricky general knowledge questions. The winning team won the impressive prize of a tub of well known sticky bite sized confectionary!

Everyone took part and donated a minimum of £2 which helped raise over £400! The event, which has been running for three years, originated with the sixth form leadership team and has now turned into a school tradition. The aim is not just fundraising but to raise awareness too. There can be no doubt that both staff and lower school students noticed the 6th Form's pink theme and were aware of the more serious message behind the fun.
Mr Hartley, Head of Sixth Form praised the students for their enthusiasm, organisation and participation. Guy, one of the event organisers added that the day went well and was a big success.
