Downs School Student Wins Regional Education Award
Fantastic Prize for Downs School Student
The school nominated Zack for this achievement award, run by Marine Developments Limited, for his perseverance in education. The award recognises pupils who have overcome adversity, volunteered to help without reward and pupils who do not have the opportunity to travel abroad and show determination and the character to succeed.
The school were delighted that their nominee was chosen as the winner of such a worthwhile award and thought it well deserved. The prize, tickets for a week’s sailing trip around the Channel Islands and France, was presented by Lord Iliffe at the Southampton Boat Show on 19 September. Family and student support manager for The Downs School, Clive Gifford said: “Zack’s a doer, a perseverer. He gets on and does it. It’s going to be a once in a life time opportunity. It will broaden his horizons.”
Headtecher, Mrs Houldey , congratulated Zack following the award which included a model of the sailing vessel on which he would visit the Channel Islands.

Following his sailing trip in April 2008, Zack used his experience and knowledge as an inspiration for artwork as part of his GCSE Art coursework.
