New York 2010

A Trip of a Lifetime!

This Easter, 61 students and 6 teachers from The Downs School visited New York for a Visual and Performing Arts tour of one of the most exciting cities in the world!

Central Park

The group was made up of students studying Art, Drama, Dance, Music and Media in years 10 to 13 and the students took part in several visits and workshops related to their subject area. Highlights included an Actors’ Audition workshop, a Broadway Dance workshop, a recording studio tour, and visits to the Guggenheim, Metropolitan Museum and of course the Museum of Modern Art for the fantastic Tim Burton exhibition.

Statue of Liberty

New York is undoubtedly one of the most culturally rich cities in the world, and the students enjoyed lots of enriching experiences as well as their subject events such as a tour of the Financial District and a moving visit to the World Trade Center site, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Central Park and a walking tour of Manhattan.

Electronic Billboard

Everywhere we went we were complimented on how wonderfully polite, enthusiastic and engaging our students were, and us teachers were all immensely proud of their behaviour on the trip. New York is an extremely fast and loud city with a lot to offer, and our students grabbed every opportunity to soak up the experience, including 15 seconds of fame appearing on an electronic billboard in Times Square! All involved agreed it was exhausting, but truly a trip to remember.
