Uniform

We are extremely proud of the smart appearance of our students, and feel that our high standards of uniform make a significant contribution to the positive behaviour of our students. I am grateful for your on-going support in ensuring that our students continue to conform to our uniform policy.

We are often asked by parents to clarify aspects of the school uniform policy, so thought it might be helpful to write to you to confirm our expectations for correct school uniform before you make any purchases.

Some of our parents tell us that, when buying school skirts, their daughters tell them that skirts do not have to be knee length. This is not true: the school’s uniform policy states that all skirts ‘must be knee length.’ The uniform supplier, Trutex, is aware of the school’s policy and supports the school by stocking a plentiful supply of appropriate-length skirts.

Students are still required to wear a school rugby shirt, sold by Trutex, although new rugby shirts will no longer have House colours on the reversible side. This is because the creation of the new House, Ilsley, meant that there are now too many variants of the rugby shirt for Trutex to be able to stock all sizes. We are also responding to requests from parents to make it easier to pass rugby shirts down to siblings, which was not possible if the sibling was in a different House.

Another area that needs clarification is footwear. For all students, shoes should be made of leather and be black or dark brown, not tan, in colour. Trainers cannot be worn, including black plimsolls, nor can shoes with heels larger than two inches. Shoes should protect and support feet to comply with Health and Safety regulations. It should also be noted that boys’ socks should be dark grey, black or navy, not white.

Students in Years 7-11 are not allowed to wear jewellery to school. Parents who wish their children to have pierced ears should get the ears pierced at the start of the holiday, to give the piercings enough time to heal before the students return to school in September.

If you have any questions about the uniform policy, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s form tutor.
